Urban Decay

How far should I go with this Urban Decay project? I see pictures all the time that would be good for that gallery. Where do I say stop? I could just keep going. Do I break that gallery into sub galleries, like say old buildings, street stuff, junk yards, etc. I’m not sure. Today I stopped at a storage yard near Cathi’s work and I could have filled up a card just with items from the yard. Near by that yard was another, this one with the carcases of two old Volkswagen Beetles that drew my attention. Unfortunately they were behind a chain link fence and too far away to get the shots I really wanted. The pictures I did take I just wasn’t as happy with. I wanted detail shots and not the shots from a telephoto lens. No depth of field…

The nice thing is that I’ve broken free of that late winter/early spring doldrums I hit both last year and this for my Picture A Day work; running out of indoor “studio” ideas and the lapsing daylight after work to go on an expedition for shots. I broke it up this time by starting out early for work and keeping an eye out for shots whenever I travel around town. I even started altering my route to and from work to scope out other opportunities…

A project Cathi and I have been talking about of late is a book or calendar or t-shirts of Bakersfield landmarks. We’ve got a loose list of possibilities. Michael has been suggesting that the urban decay project could be turned into a book project, too. The cool thing is that these are all possible these days because of the on-demand printing houses on the net…
